A
Call to Duty
Every
fifty-seven hours a Law Enforcement Officer is killed in the line
of duty somewhere in the United States. On average, 150 Law Enforcement
Officers are killed each year. This May, over 160 names of law
enforcement officers were added to the National Law Enforcement
Memorial during National Police Week in Washington, D.C.
Many members of the Rockland Police Department have friends and
acquaintances whose names are engraved on that very same wall
of honor. Our officers have dedicated themselves to honoring those
officers and their families each year.

In an effort to provide solace, support, and a place of honor here
in Rockland, a memorial committee was appointed. They were assigned
the task of financing and erecting a memorial in Honor and Memory
of All Law Enforcement Officers, no matter where they served. We were
dedicated to designing and purchasing a Law Enforcement Memorial to
be erected in front of the new police station. We envisioned this
memorial to be a part of Rockland, its citizens and our youth. It
was designed with the children of Rockland in mind. Through their
strength, resiliency and understanding, they help us to pick ourselves
up and go on.
During this day of the dedication of the Rockland Police Memorial,
"A Call To Duty - The Healing Touch", we want to thank you the citizens,
businesspersons, and our youth of Rockland for all of your valued
support of this memorial project. Without your help and financial
support this project would not have been possible. We are honored
and humbled to be part of a community that truly cares.
We graciously thank you, our heroes, for all that you have done. All
of you have worked together to make this a true Community Project.
Please take the time to visit and enjoy this memorial. It is yours
to use for your own personal reflections. |
