Lt. Barry Ashton

Lt. Barry E. Ashton was appointed to the Rockland Police Department in 1977. Promoted to Sgt. in 1985 and to Lieutenant in 1989. Lt. Ashton is the Executive Officer of the Department, is in charge of the Operations Division and serves as the officer in charge of the Department's Special Response Team.

Lt. Ashton is a graduate of Rockland High School in Rockland, Massachusetts and a graduate of Anna Maria College in Paxton, Massachusetts with a Master's degree in Criminal Justice.

Barry has been married for 30 years to Susan Howes Ashton and they are the proud parents of:

  • Michael Ashton, age 26, is a 2004 graduate of Anna Maria College in Paxton, Massachusetts with a Bachelor's Degree Criminal Justice. Michael also graduated from Worcester Poly Tech Army R.O.T.C.and is a Captain in the U.S. Army Transportation Corp., Currently serving in Iraq
  • Diane Ashton, age 22, is a 2006 graduate of Becker College in Leicester, Massachusetts with a Bachelor's Degree in Veterinary Science. Diane is currently working as a Veterinary Technician.
  • Emily Ashton, age 12, is a 6th grade student at Holy Family School, Rockland, Massachusetts.

Lt. Ashton has been a member of the Department's Honor Guard Unit for over 10 years. He is involved because "each time a police officer makes the ultimate sacrifice, a little part of each of us dies with him/her". "It does not matter which town, county or city these officers serve in, or what part of the country they work in...I want them to know, that we will never forget them or their families".

During his off duty time, Barry enjoys winter skiing, golfing and sail boating.
